Great Western Hospital

Work carried out

Following the discovery that the existing smoke damper control system was failing likely to leave the hospital without a statutory compliant system Compass Complete Solutions were asked to advise what could possibly be done to improve this situation. A visit was made by the Managing Director and Technical Manager to site to survey what controls system and equipment was installed and what could possibly be done to rectify the problem.

Problems faced

After discussions and consideration with several equipment manufacturers it was agreed that the only option was to install a semi-automated installation, which would require a manual switch-over of the dampers on a floor by floor from the control room. Not an ideal option, but many times better than no control option at all. This option gave the hospital the time it needed to plan and tender a project to replace the smoke damper control system, with a “Statutory Compliance” reporting system and remote function and monitoring application.

End result

In October\November 2020 we successfully tendered and won the contract to replace the existing smoke damper control system in the hospital. The project would involve a complete new control installation being installed alongside the existing and then being swapped over on an individual damper basis for over 900 smoke dampers.
